Righteous relationships in marriage

Jesus’ continues his teaching about the kingdom with his disciples in Mathew 5:27-32. We are putting two topics together here, as they are linked by the subject of marriage. Adultery at that time strictly meant among married people, while today it is often thought that only one of the parties need be wed. The context of both the adultery and the divorce are the same, a married relationship that is breaking down. The Greek word often translated “woman” in v.28 and “wife” in v.31 is the exact same word. So it would make sense to make the word consistently “wife” and to see that Jesus is addressing marital relationships in this sermon.
