The priorities of the Kingdom

Jesus’ sermon has been building to the key point: What is the essence of the Kingdom? The supreme value? The top priority? To his listeners, the disciples, who have been caught up in their lives of fishing, tax-collecting and other occupations, this would be a shock to their system. Put yourself in their shoes (I mean sandals, of course.) This would be revolutionary.

And for us? How do we relate to Jesus’ value system, which turns our world’s values upside down? Any reading of this that doesn’t feel the absolute shock of what he is saying truly misses the point.
