When Jesus Christ is not like we expected
By the time Jesus Christ begins His ministry in Israel the nation was fairly clear on what they expected from a Messiah. These expectations were not so much rooted in the Old Testament scriptures as they were in the traditions, practices and teaching of the religious leaders. It did not take very long for Jesus to show that He really did not fit these expectations. He was not trying to. As God in human flesh, He was displaying exactly what God was like, and this was not much in keeping with their anticipation of a person who would cater to the religious leaders and lead the country in driving out the Roman intruders.
What expectations do we have of Jesus Christ that may cloud our thinking and confuse us? Consider how we may need to correct out thinking of Jesus as we study these passages.
